Problem

No viable pathway to convert low-grade biomass into ISO 8217-compliant marine fuel. Pyrolysis oils had a ~100-year history of industrial failure.

Approach

Two-stage thermochemical platform with real-time process control, feedstock standardisation, and remote monitoring. Built R&D infrastructure and supply chain partnerships from scratch.

Result

A 65-tonne fuel blend containing MASH biofuel powered a commercial roundtrip voyage from Singapore to Brazil in unmodified engines — the first commercial vessel operation on fuel from a carbon-negative process. An ISCC audit assessed the fuel as cutting the carbon footprint of conventional marine fuel by up to 94%.
